This year marks the Harlequin Singers’ 25th year, and it is set to be a very big year for us. We will be marking our 25th anniversary with a spectacular concert later this year on Saturday October 8th at St Mary Redcliffe. We will be joined by the New Bristol Sinfonia for this special occasion and performing a wonderful work by Ola Gjeilo, the Sunrise Mass, as well as many of our favourite choral pieces from the past 25 years.
The year will also be an particularly poignant one, as we must now announce that our long-serving musical director, Peter Wilkinson, will be retiring as MD at the end of this year after leading us for 25 years.
You may see on the website that we have now begun the recruitment process for a new MD who will be taking the great opportunity to lead a talented and unique choir onwards from January 2017. However, before that time, we have several great concerts planned during 2016 with Peter Wilkinson leading us. We hope you can join us for as many of these as possible, ensuring we mark these special occasions and bid farewell to Peter in the best way possible, thanking him for the incredible work he has done with the choir over the past 25 years.
So what’s in the pipeline? We will soon be returning to Southwell Minster for another weekend singing there as a visiting choir and we have a concert in Cotham on 10 June supporting Alalay, a charity helping Bolivian street kids. On 9 July we will be returning to the beautiful acoustic of All Saints in Weston-Super-Mare for a lunchtime concert, and of course our 25th anniversary concert on 8 October in St Mary Redcliffe should not be missed. Further details to be announced later in the year about our popular Christmas concerts in December.
It is really set to be a wonderful year for the Harlequins and I hope you can join us.
